US captain Davis Love III claims that qualifying for a place on the Ryder Cup team is a priority for Tiger Woods.

US captain Davis Love III has revealed that Tiger Woods is desperate to earn a place in the side for the 2016 Ryder Cup.

Woods is currently on a self-imposed exile from golf following a disappointing start to the year, but Love is confident that the former world number one can prove his worth once again as he bids to play in the Ryder Cup for the eighth time.

"He's expecting to make the team," Love told BBC Radio 5 live. "He and I keep in touch a lot more than we have. He still has a good attitude and is working hard.

"I spoke to a few people who tell me he's working very hard and is eager to get back. I suppose he has a plan for The Masters - we're hoping to see him back soon."

Woods has slipped down to 96 in the rankings during his break from the sport.
