Result: Rory McIlroy clinches Irish Open title

A birdie and an eagle in the final three holes help Rory McIlroy to win the Irish Open, thus ending his 2016 trophy drought.

Rory McIlory ended his wait for a first title triumph of 2016 at the Irish Open earlier today.

After a weather-disrupted third round, the four-time Major champion had managed to build up a three-shot advantage.

However, as he headed to the 16th hole on the final day, McIlroy found himself one shot adrift of Scotland's Russell Knox.

Yet just when it seemed that the world number three's trophy drought was about to continue, he produced a birdie and an eagle to win by three at the K Club.

McIlroy's 69 for the round took him to 12-under for the tournament, while Knox and Bradley Dredge shared second spot.

England's Matt Southgate finished in third, four shots off the champion.
