Thomas Bjorn and Padraig Harrington will once more form part of Europe's backroom team at this year's Ryder Cup, while Paul Lawrie will make his debut as vice-captain.

Europe captain Darren Clarke has named Thomas Bjorn, Padraig Harrington and Paul Lawrie as his three vice-captains for the 2016 Ryder Cup.

It means a return to the same role alongside Clarke played in 2010 and 2012 for Bjorn, while three-time major champion Harrington also has previous experience as part of the Gleneagles 2014 team.

Lawrie, a former Open champion, will make his debut as part of the backroom staff for Europe, as they go in search of a fourth-straight victory - and ninth success in the last 11 - at this summer's tournament.

Clarke, who also revealed that more assistants will be named further down the line, intends to get Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Manchester United managerial great Sir Alex Ferguson to help his side's efforts as motivational speakers.

Former English golfer Tony Jacklin speaks at a press conference days ahead of the start of the 2012 British Open Golf Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes in Lytham, north-west England, on July 16, 2012
