Nico Rosberg has said that he wants victory at the United States Grand Prix "very badly" as he tries to keep his title hopes alive.

The German beat Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to pole position at the Circuit of the Americas and needs to win in Texas to stay in contention for the world championship.

However, Rosberg has suggested that he was in good form, despite the testing conditions in Austin.

He told reporters: "It was a really good qualifying. I felt comfortable in the car. It was difficult out there with the aquaplaning and everything because when it happens you struggle to have control over the car and it just snaps suddenly. It was quite challenging out there.

"For the race, I have no idea. It is supposed to be drying out from now onwards but it really doesn't look like it out there. So who knows?

"I'm feeling good in any condition at the moment and our car is great in any condition so full wets, intermediates, dries, whatever is fine really."

Rosberg is currently third in the drivers' standings.
