Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has declared that he is "happy" with his performance in the qualifying phase of the Spanish Grand Prix, during which he secured pole position for the main race.

The Briton said that he was delighted to cross the line ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg, who was only a fraction of a second behind Hamilton's finish time of 1:22.000.

"[I'm] very, very happy with getting the lap. Obviously Nico has been really strong all week so bit by bit I have been trying to put the pace together," BBC Sport quotes Hamilton as saying.

"The guys back at the factory have been working so hard to try to rectify the problems we have had over the past few weeks. This is now three out of three for me so I'm obviously pretty happy."

The Spanish Grand Prix, which has seen nine different winners in as many years, gets underway tomorrow.
