Mercedes confirm speculation that they have snapped up former Ferrari technical boss James Allison.

Mercedes have confirmed speculation that they have snapped up former Ferrari technical boss James Allison.

Allison left Ferrari and Italy last year, following the sudden death of his UK-domiciled wife.

"I am very excited to be getting back to work after this time away from the sport," he said.

Allison's appointment at Brackley-based Mercedes comes after Paddy Lowe's recent switch to Williams.

The 48-year-old's tenure will begin on March 1.
