Lewis Hamilton will start on pole for the Italian Grand Prix.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will start in pole position for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix.

The Brit earned his seventh pole in a row and starts in first for the 11th time this season, finishing two-tenths of a second ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Nico Rosberg had to settle for fourth behind both Ferrari cars, with the German finishing three-tenths behind his Mercedes teammate.

Both McLaren drivers failed to make it out of Q1, with Jenson Button finishing 16th and Fernando Alonso a place behind him.

Toro Rosso driver Max Verstappen failed to make Q2 for the first time in his career and will start at the back of the grid after failing to register a time, with his engine cover falling off as he attempted a lap late on in Q1.

Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Daniil Kvyat, Daniel Ricciardo, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and possibly Marcus Ericsson all face grid-place penalties.
