Sergio Perez admits that he was a "bit too optimistic" during his final run of qualifying as he tried to get a tow from Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari.

Sergio Perez has said that he was "too optimistic" when he attempted to get a tow from Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari during his final qualifying run at Monza.

The Force India driver finished seventh in the qualifiers ahead of Sunday's Italian Grand Prix.

However, Perez admits that he had made a mistake during his final run, which cost him crucial seconds.

"In Q3, I was a bit too optimistic and tried to get a tow from Kimi [Raikkonen] on the straight but it didn't work," Perez is quoted as saying by motorsport.com.

"It actually cost me a couple of tenths.

"The race will be hard, but our target should be to challenge Williams ahead of us."

The Italian Grand Prix starts at 1pm tomorrow.
