Result: Bas Dost at the double to help Wolfsburg past Hertha Berlin

Wolfsburg close the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich back to eight points courtesy of a Bas Dost-inspired 2-1 victory over Hertha Berlin.

Wolfsburg have battled to a 2-1 victory over Hertha Berlin to maintain their impressive unbeaten run and keep the pressure alive on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

Die Wolf, who have not tasted defeat in their last nine outings, closed the gap on Pep Guardiola's men back to eight points with 12 games left to play.

The home side were ahead inside 10 minutes when Andre Schurrle flicked on a cross into the path of Dost, who impressively tucked the ball away to keep up his fine form in front of goal.

Valentin Stocker then managed to level things up on the half-hour mark with his close-range header which left Diego Benaglio helpless between the sticks.

Wolfsburg could have regained their advantage before the interval through Schurrle, but the former Chelsea man failed to find the target with his shot from inside the box.

The same player squandered another opening on the hour when he fired well over the target with a first-time attempt when well-placed once more, although it mattered little in the grand scheme of things for the Wolves.

That is because Dost managed to react quickest to tap home Luiz Gustavo's strike which came back off the upright to bag goal number 11 of the calendar year and fire his side ahead.

Schurrle was involved yet again late on as he looked to put the seal on things, only to be denied by Thomas Kraft's fine save.

Hertha could not find a way back into the game for a second time, however, meaning that they remain rooted to the foot of the current form table with one win from their last seven games.
