The 2017/18 campaign was the club's first without Premier League parachute payments.

Wigan have revealed losses of £7.7million for the last financial year despite winning the Sky Bet League One title and reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The Latics, currently 19th in the Championship, stopped receiving Premier League parachute payments for their 2017/18 promotion-winning campaign.

"Wigan Athletic Football Club release their financial results for the year ended 31 May 2018 which show a net loss of £7.7m compared to a net profit of £4.3m in 2017," the club said on their official website.

"Turnover decreased by £18.4m to £6.7m primarily due to the fact that this was the first season without Premier League parachute payments.

"EFL central payments and match related revenues also decreased as a result of the club competing in EFL League One.

"Profit on the sale of players also reduced to £1m compared to £4.6m in the previous season."

Wigan said total expenses, including salary costs and amortisation of player contracts decreased by £9.4m to £15.9m, while salary costs were £11.7m compared to £16.6m the previous year.

Latics chief executive Jonathan Jackson added: "The 2017/18 season was the first year since relegation from the Premier League in which the club had to operate without parachute payments.

"The loss was anticipated, but these results highlight the investment required to achieve success outside the Premier League."

International Entertainment Corporation completed its takeover of the club from the Whelan family in November last year.
