Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez departs for West Bromwich Albion in a deal initially worth £12m, ending his five-year spell on the south coast.

West Bromwich Albion have finalised a deal for Jay Rodriguez, bringing an end to their long-running pursuit of the Southampton striker.

The 27-year-old has been a target for Albion boss Tony Pulis for the past 12 months, despite a frustrating spell on the south coast that has seen him struggle with injuries.

Rodriguez managed 32 goals in 126 appearances for the Saints during his five-year stint with the club, scoring 15 of those in the 2013-14 campaign when his form was rewarded with a call to the England squad.

Talks have now concluded between the two sides and a fee of £12m agreed, which could potentially rise to £15m if various add-ons are reached.

Rodriguez, who joined Southampton from hometown club Burnley in 2012 for a reported figure of £7m, becomes just Albion's second permanent acquisition of 2017.
