Nigel Adkins felt Hull were well worth their win over West Brom

Fraizer Campbell netted the winner.

Nigel Adkins believes his Hull side got what they deserved with a 1-0 win over high-flying West Brom.

The Tigers have struggled in the Sky Bet Championship this season but on a day when goalkeeper David Marshall did not have a save to make they made it back-to-back victories and clean sheets.

Fraizer Campbell got his second goal in as many games as Hull gave the sort of resolute performance which should help them climb away from the wrong end of the table.

The Hull head coach said: “It was a good victory, I thought it was one we deserved.

“It’s good to get back-to-back victories and two clean sheets.”

Striker Campbell settled the issue with a composed finish near the end of the first half after a header from Jackson Irvine came back off the crossbar.

Adkins praised Campbell, saying: “The ball has fallen to Fraizer who was in the right place to put it in the back of the net.

“I enjoyed the first half, the work-rate and the effort of the players to get around the park was excellent.

“We’ve been in all the games, but they’ve been fine margins. We’ve been in all the games and today we got the win we deserved. We’ve been consistently playing well.”

Hull were the better side from an attacking point of view as man of the match Kamil Grosicki fashioned the better of the chances.

With on-loan defender Tommy Elphick breaking down anything the visitors created there was not much threat on the Hull goal.

Had Jarrod Bowen’s early header not been tipped on to the bar by Sam Johnstone it would have been worse for the Baggies.

With Jay Rodriguez leading the line, West Brom lacked the chances and the cutting edge normally associated with promotion challengers.

West Brom head coach Darren Moore admitted his side had not reached the standards they had set this season which had previously seen them score freely and challenge for a quick return to the Premier League.

He said: “It was a performance that we’ve dropped below the level we’ve set in recent weeks and months. A performance I was not happy with.

“There were certain parts that just weren’t there today, that’s the most disappointing thing. From our point of view we didn’t get anywhere near those levels.

“You must give Hull credit, they were working hard. They got a goal from a set play and sat deep. They would have thought it was a well worked team effort today.

“When the opportunities did come to hurt them or to use the ball wisely and cleverly we didn’t do that. I’ve got no excuses.”
