Javi Gracia admits that he is "proud" to manage Watford after Sunday's Premier League victory over Crystal Palace edged the Hornets to second in the table.

Javi Gracia has reiterated that he is "proud" to manage Watford after Sunday's victory over Crystal Palace edged the Hornets close to the top of the table.

Watford ran out 2-1 winners over the Eagles as second-half goals from Roberto Pereyra and Jose Holebas ensured that Wilfried Zaha's 78th-minute reply would not impact on the outcome of the game.

The result, which marks the first time in Watford's history that the club have won three top-flight games in a row, edged the Hornets up to second in the table, behind leaders Liverpool on goal difference.

Zaha found himself on the receiving end of a reckless studs-up tackle by Etienne Capoue early in the game but Gracia claimed at full time that he did not see the challenge.

"I'm very happy because it is always difficult to get a result in the Premier League," Gracia told BBC Sport. "We have three wins and it is amazing. The players have been rewarded because they have worked very hard.

"They believe we can do things. At this moment we have played really well the last few games but we know it is very early and only three steps. I feel the same as I felt from the first day - I'm very proud to be Watford coach.

"To be honest I didn't see [Capoue's tackle on Zaha]. It was a rainy day with many contacts. If you speak to me about Capoue, I didn't see it."

Watford travel to Reading for their EFL second-round tie on Wednesday night before returning to Premier League action by hosting Tottenham Hotspur.
