Jonathan Ford to face disciplinary commission over 'English' remark

Football Association of Wales chief executive Jonathan Ford is to face a disciplinary commission after claiming that the next Wales boss will "definitely" not be English.

Football Association of Wales chief executive Jonathan Ford is to face a disciplinary commission over his comment claiming that the next Wales manager will "definitely" not be English.

Ford ruled English coaches out of the running to replace former Dragons boss Chris Coleman, who left his role with the national side to join Sunderland in November.

"We have always favoured Welsh people because arguably the passion is there," Ford told BBC Sport.

"Somebody said this earlier, Welsh most definitely, foreign possibly, but definitely not English."

The ruling FAW council met in Cardiff on Tuesday and voted for Ford's comment to be explored further, with a three-man disciplinary commission set up.

Ford's remark could be deemed to have broken the law - specifically the Equality Act 2010, which prevents discrimination against anyone because of "race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin".

The last six Wales managers, including caretakers, have been Welsh, with Englishman Bobby Gould between 1995 and 1999 being the last non-Welshman to manage the national team.
