Andriy Shevchenko appointed Ukraine manager

Ukraine appoint record goalscorer and former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko as their new manager.

Ukraine have appointed former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko as their new manager.

The 39-year-old was part of the coaching set-up at Euro 2016 when Ukraine failed to make it out of the group stages, losing all three of their games without scoring a goal.

Manager Mykhaylo Fomenko saw his four-year spell in charge come to an end as a result of their performance in France, and Shevchenko has now been confirmed as his successor.

It will be Shevchenko's first job in management since his retirement in 2012 having only previously served as Fomenko's assistant.

Shevchenko is widely regarded as Ukraine's greatest ever player and holds the record for most goals for the national team having found the back of the net 48 times in his 111 international appearances.
