Ukraine lead Slovenia 1-0 at the interval of the first leg of their Euro 2016 playoff match at the Arena Lviv.

The only goal of the half came in the 23rd minute, with Dynamo Kiev attacker Andriy Yarmolenko twisting inside the Slovenian box before finding the back of the net.

The first half-chance of the match came inside the opening five minutes when Vyacheslav Shevchuk delivered a dangerous cross from the left, but Yevhen Seleznyov could not make contact inside a crowded Slovenia box.

Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka continued to cause problems as the half progressed and a dangerous cross from the latter saw Denys Garmash head over the crossbar in the 16th minute.

Yarmolenko opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a super finish into the bottom corner and it was the hosts that continued to threaten with Garmash and Serhiy Rybalka also coming close during a strong period for the home team.

Slovenia's best chance of the first half came in the 28th minute when Josip Ilicic met a knockdown from Milivoje Novakovic inside the box, but his effort was always rising over the crossbar.

Rybalka and Garmash again both came close in the latter stages of the opening half, which was busy for the referee due to a number of unsavoury incidents.

Ukraine, who had three attempts on target to Slovenia's zero in the first period of action, have won 11 of their last 13 matches in this particular stadium.
