Result: Swansea City go nine points clear of drop after slender win over Norwich City

Swansea City move nine points clear of relegation from the Premier League following a 1-0 win over Norwich City.

Swansea City moved nine points clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League after Gylfi Sigurdsson's solitary goal was enough to down Norwich City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Icelandic midfielder found the back of the net in the 61st minute and as the Canaries were unable to respond, Alex Neil's side remain in the danger zone, one point from safety.

It was a cagey affair to begin with as neither team managed to trouble the respective goalkeepers in the early stages of the contest.

The visiting side were the first to come close to scoring as Cameron Jerome produced a strike from the edge of the box, which looked to be travelling to the bottom right corner.

However, Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who helped his side claim a 2-1 win over Arsenal in midweek, managed to get to the ball first and keep Jerome out.

Tackles were flying in as six yellow cards were brandished before the game reached the hour mark, and the two sides were separated when Sigurdsson latched on to Leroy Fer's pass before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.

The home side ramped up the attack as Wayne Routledge came close with a low shot drilled towards the bottom left corner, but goalkeeper John Ruddy made the stop.

Sigurdsson also had an opportunity for a second, but he squandered it after his mid-range shot was prevented from reaching the top left corner by Ruddy.

Norwich had two late chances, one of which was presented to Nathan Redmond, who failed to convert a rebound six yards out from goal, while Patrick Bamford's strike towards the bottom left corner was saved by Fabianski.
