With Premier League clubs having to reassess their plans in the market, which Australian players could be targeted by English clubs during the next transfer window?

Throughout the history of the Premier League, numerous Australian players have made the move to England in a bid to enhance their career. The likes of Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka immediately spring to mind, while Tim Cahill's longevity at Everton has ensured that he will forever remain as a legendary figure in their history. While there are only a limited amount of players currently representing top-flight clubs, that may change over the coming months with teams having to reassess their plans for the transfer market, potentially taking a look to the other side of the globe for opportunities to pick up value for money.

Just like it is imperative that punters assess Safe Australian online casino reviews before their next bet, clubs will need justifiable reasons as to why they should hand a place in their respective squads to players unproven on the big stage. That may well be the case with Adam Taggart, who was contracted to Fulham between 2014 and 2016 and never played a competitive match. Nevertheless, the striker has since proven himself elsewhere, starring for Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar and South Korean outfit Suwon Bluewings, finishing the season as top goalscorer during the 2019 campaign. At a time when the 26-year-old has also regained his place in the national team, Taggart's stock has never been higher, and Premier League clubs may be ready to pounce with just 18 months remaining on his contract.

The same thought process could be applied to Martin Boyle, the Hibernian attacker who has spent his entire professional career in Scotland. Boyle, now 27 years of age, has spent time at different parts of the league pyramid, but he has been productive in the Scottish Premiership, contributing 14 goals and 17 assists from 95 outings in the division. As it stands, a move to a Championship team may appear more likely, but having just over a year remaining on his contract may lead to one of the newly-promoted clubs taking a punt on a player who switched his allegiances in order to represent the Socceroos, making his debut in 2018.

Mathew Leckie, one of the most established players in the Australia setup, has spent the last nine years in Germany with a variety of clubs, but the winger is likely to be on the move at the end of the season. Hertha Berlin have provided Leckie with just 119 minutes of Bundesliga football during the current campaign, which has already led to the 29-year-old expressing a desire to find a new club. Again, do not be surprised to see one of the lower-end Premier League teams register an interest in his services.

Jamie Maclaren has reached a stage of his career where he may be looking for a return to the United Kingdom. Maclaren spent part of his youth days at Blackburn Rovers before being released without making a senior appearance, while a period was recently on spent on loan at Hibernian where nine goals were netted from 30 outings. Since then, the 29-year-old has become the marquee player at Melbourne City, living up to his contract with 18 goals and four assists from 20 games this season. Combining his enhanced reputation with the potential of his club needing to cut costs, the attacker may soon be regarded as an attractive option by English teams.

Premier League sides are always looking for young players with potential, and that may lead to approaches being made for Adelaide United midfielder Riley McGree. While Club Brugge were not convinced by the player's ability while contracted to the club between 2017 and 2019, the 21-year-old has been a huge hit in the A-League in recent seasons, contributing 21 goals and 10 assists since the beginning of the 2017-18 campaign. For a player of that age, that is an outstanding return from the centre of midfield and another spell in Europe feels inevitable. Although McGree has over two years left on his contract, Adelaide may be willing to do a deal with a Premier League outfit should they come calling later in 2020.
