Sunderland defender John O'Shea believes that the club have made the right appointment in bringing David Moyes in to replace Sam Allardyce.

Sunderland defender John O'Shea has talked up the qualities of new manager David Moyes.

The former Everton and Manchester United boss returned to the Premier League earlier this month, with Sunderland acting quickly to replace Sam Allardyce following his appointment as England manager.

The Scot is still in his early days at the Stadium of Light, but O'Shea has already seen signs to convince him that they have made the right appointment.

"The new manager has a fantastic pedigree and I saw a stat that he's third or fourth highest in terms of all-time Premier League wins, so we have a manager who knows how to win football matches," he told the club's official website.

"I've had very tough games against his teams in the past and although he hasn't had much time with the group yet he's been getting his ideas across."

Moyes's first competitive match in charge of Sunderland will see him take on Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on August 13.
