The Potters sacked Gary Rowett on Tuesday.

Stoke have announced they are in talks with Luton boss Nathan Jones about their managerial vacancy.

The Potters sacked Gary Rowett on Tuesday following their poor first half of the season and are searching for their fourth manager in 12 months.

"Stoke City can confirm that the club is in discussions with Nathan Jones over the vacant managerial position," the Sky Bet Championship club said on Twitter.

Luton have announced they have given Stoke the all-clear to approach their manager.

"We can confirm that we have granted permission to Stoke City to speak to Nathan Jones over their managerial vacancy. We will update supporters on any further developments in due course," Luton said on Twitter.

Jones, 45, guided Luton to promotion to League One last season having been appointed in January 2016. He had previously worked as coach and then assistant manager at Brighton.

Luton have made an impressive start in League One this season and currently occupy the second automatic promotion spot.

Stoke, 14th in the Championship after winning just eight of their 26 league games under Rowett, were reported to have been turned down by Slavisa Jokanovic when they approached the former Fulham boss for talks.

David Moyes, Sam Allardyce, Derek McInnes and Martin O'Neill had all emerged as possible candidates to replace Rowett following his departure on Tuesday.
