Gary Rowett says that his main aim is to guide Stoke City back to the Premier League following his appointment as manager.

Gary Rowett has insisted that his main objective is to get Stoke City back in the Premier League following his appointment as manager.

The Potters confirmed the arrival of the 44-year-old on Tuesday evening.

Rowett has left his role as Derby County manager in order to take the job at Stoke, who sacked Paul Lambert following the club's relegation to the Championship.

"This has come around quite quickly, but I am absolutely delighted to make the move to such an ambitious football club," Rowett told the club's official website.

"This is a club that has had amazing stability over the years, has been established in the Premier League for some time and the challenge for me now is, of course, to get Stoke City back into that division as soon as possible.

"There are certain things to do now, and to get right, but the undoubted ambition of myself and the people above me is to take this club back up as quickly as we possibly can."

Rowett guided Derby to the Championship playoff semi-finals, but ended up losing to Fulham.
