Kane: 'Alli a player for big occasions'

Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane claims that Dele Alli is a player 'for the big games', while also defending the midfielder's international form.

Harry Kane has labelled Tottenham Hotspur teammate Dele Alli 'a game-changing player' ahead of England's 2018 World Cup campaign.

Both players are in the Three Lions' 23-man squad that will head to Russia next month, coming on the back of a season that saw Spurs finish third in the Premier League.

Alli contributed 14 goals and 14 assists for Tottenham in all competitions, memorably finding the net in wins over Real Madrid and Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has not always produced the same sort of form for England, with two goals in 23 caps, but Kane insists that his close friend's age must be taken into account.

"Dele has scored goals, assisted goals and he's a game-changer," he told his club's official website. "He has that ability where he can change a game in a second.

"You saw that earlier this season at Stamford Bridge with his great run, great touch and great finish to win us the game. In the big moments in the big games he's there - and he enjoys those moments.

"I think sometimes people lose sight of his age. He just has to stay positive, keep doing what he's doing year after year and be consistent - that's most important."

Kane and Alli could both feature when England face Nigeria in their first World Cup warm-up match at Wembley Stadium next Saturday.
