Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Celta Vigo over signing Spain Under-19 midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop, according to reports.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks with Celta Vigo over the signing of midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop.

The 20-year-old has won 10 caps for Spain's Under-19 side and is considered one of the country's most promising prospects.

In terms of club experience, the box-to-box midfielder made 19 appearances for Celta Vigo in all competitions last season, five of which were starts in La Liga.

According to Sky Sports News, Spurs are hoping to conclude a deal for the player by next week, making him their first signing of the summer window.

The report also suggests that the North Londoners had made Everton's Ross Barkley their top midfield target this summer, but the Toffees have given no indication of lowering their £50m asking price.

Mauricio Pochettino's charges get their Premier League campaign underway at Newcastle United on Sunday.
