Poyet: 'Mourinho will win trophies at Spurs'

Former midfielder Gus Poyet predicts that Jose Mourinho will be responsible for ending Tottenham Hotspur's wait for their next piece of silverware.

Former midfielder Gus Poyet says that he will be "very surprised" if Tottenham Hotspur do not win a trophy under Jose Mourinho.

Mauricio Pochettino failed to end the North London outfit's wait for silverware during his spell at the club, resulting in Mourinho being brought in as the Argentine's replacement in November.

While Mourinho is yet to fully convince supporters that he is the right man for the job, Poyet feels that Spurs are not far away from success under the former Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss.

Speaking to Stats Perform, Poyet said: "What I say in the time he did the job is, if you give him three years at the club, I will be surprised if he doesn't win a trophy. I will be very surprised.

"Maybe he's unlucky and next year we don't have the League Cup and there will be one trophy less to play for, but he knows how to get players to play for important games."

Spurs have not won a trophy since claiming the EFL Cup in 2008.
