Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho hails his side's "determination" and "character" following recent fightbacks as they prepare to face league leaders Liverpool.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has hailed his side's "determination" and "character" ahead of this afternoon's Premier League clash with leaders Liverpool.

Spurs welcome Jurgen Klopp's side to North London on a run of just one win from their last five outings across all competitions, although that run could have been worse had they not come from behind to avoid defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion, Norwich City and Middlesbrough in that time.

Tottenham are a whopping 28 points adrift of Liverpool going into today's match, but Mourinho is still happy with the fight his side have shown amidst a significant injury crisis.

"Having gone down 1-0 on Boxing Day to Brighton, we showed spirit to fight back and come away with a deserved 2-1 victory," Mourinho wrote in his programme notes.

"It is never ideal to fall behind in a game but the fact we were able to also respond in matches at Norwich City and Middlesbrough shows the determination and the character this squad possesses, particularly with the recent injuries and suspensions we have suffered.

"Lesser teams may have lost those games but we kept playing with intensity and effort to pull ourselves back in, although on both occasions it was disappointing that we couldn't go one further and win."

Tottenham's current list of long-term absentees includes the likes of Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko, among others.
