Christian Eriksen hopes to replicate Denmark form for Tottenham Hotspur

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen believes that he scores more regularly for his national side compared to Tottenham Hotspur due to a difference in build-up play.

Christian Eriksen has admitted that he is keen to replicate his goalscoring form for Denmark over the past couple of years at club level with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 26-year-old netted twice in the Scandinavian outfit's 2-0 win over Wales in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, taking his tally to 15 goals in his last 18 international games.

Eriksen also boasts five assists during that time, but he has found it a little more difficult contributing directly to goals for Spurs, having gone 10 matches since last finding a way through.

Asked why he scores more freely for Denmark, the former Ajax ace put it down to the Lilywhites' more elaborate build-up play.

"I got off to a very slow start with five goals in my first 50 games for Denmark," he told reporters. "But my form with Denmark hasn't been too bad since. It took me a while but I'm finally here, it's almost going too well, but I hope it carries on.

"I've always had many shots, even in the Premier League but I just haven't scored yet. I'm trying to get in good positions in every game to create something or take a shot but they just keep flying in for the national team. It's great to have that form going into the weekend.

"Penalties are easy if you score, but in open play we create chances as well. Everyone wants to play like Spurs, we want to play attractive football, get the ball forward and create chances with good possession. I think it is similar with Denmark.

"But I'm a little bit further up the pitch and not so much involved in the build-up because we probably have less of a build-up than we do at Spurs. We go for the long ball a bit earlier with Denmark and try to get the second ball."

Eriksen has 25 goals in 83 appearances for Denmark overall since making his senior bow in 2010.
