FA chairman Greg Dyke says that Tottenham Hotspur are close to a deal to play home games at Wembley in the 2017-18 season while their new stadium is being built.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are close to agreeing a deal which would see them play home games at Wembley while their new stadium is built.

Spurs are building a 61,000-capacity arena adjacent to their current White Hart Lane home and will need an alternative venue to host matches in the 2017-18 season before they move into their new ground the following year.

The North London side may also play their home matches in next season's Champions League at Wembley.

"We are certainly in discussion with Spurs that they should come in for the full season when they're rebuilding their stadium," Dyke told Sky Sports News.

"I think we're a long way down the path on reaching an agreement. There's some discussion about whether they'll play their Champions League games there at Wembley next year but I don't know much about that.

"On the full season, I think we're quite close to a deal."

Dyke also said that Chelsea could play home games at Wembley in the near future when they redevelop their Stamford Bridge stadium.
