After a goalless first half, Harry Kane gave Spurs the lead shortly after the restart before Pascal Gross equalised from the spot two minutes later.

Spurs had the better of the chances during the remainder of the contest, but Brighton were full value for the point which takes the club closer to safety.

6.45pmHello and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the match in the Premier League between Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur. Both clubs are just a matter of points away from achieving one of their targets this season, but who will prevail in Tuesday's clash at the Amex Stadium?

6.47pmBRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION XI: Ryan; Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Bong; Kayal, Stephens; Knockaert, Gross, Izquierdo; Murray

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION SUBSTITUTES: Krul, Schelotto, Goldson, March, Ulloa, Locadia, Baldock

6.49pmTOTTENHAM HOTSPUR XI: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Wanyama, Sissoko; Eriksen, Moura, Son; Kane

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR SUBSTITUTES: Vorm, Trippier, Foyth, Dier, Dembele, Lamela, Llorente

6.51pmLet's start with the Brighton side as Chris Hughton opts to make two changes to the team which suffered defeat at Crystal Palace at the weekend. The players coming into the team are Bruno at right-back and Anthony Knockaert, who will take his place in the final third of the pitch.

6.53pmIt means that both Ezequiel Schelotto and Jurgen Locadia have to make do with a place among the replacements. It's slightly harsh on Locadia who created a goal during the first half at Selhurst Park before being substituted, but Hughton must be concerned with the defensive contribution of the January signing.

6.55pmHughton was never likely to drop goalkeeper Mathew Ryan but the Aussie stopper is in need of an improved performance after arguably being at fault for two of Palace's three goals. That said, he has been terrific this season and deserves the chance to redeem himself.

6.57pmThe alterations mean that Locadia adds to a bench which is full of firepower with Leonardo Ulloa and Sam Baldock also available. Neither player will be satisfied with how they have been used since January so will relish any chance to make an impact later in this contest.

6.59pmPochettino suggested during his pre-match press conference that he would rotate his team and the Argentine certainly wasn't fibbing. The most notable inclusion is that of Toby Alderweireld, who makes his first outing in the Premier League since October. Davinson Sanchez has been given the night off.

7.01pmThe other major switch involves Dele Alli, who also doesn't feature in Pochettino's squad this evening. Lucas Moura has been introduced in his place as the Brazilian finally makes his first start in the Premier League.

7.03pmPochettino has made six changes in all, with Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela all being dropped from the starting lineup. Serge Aurier, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min have been brought back into the team.

7.05pmAll four players feature on the substitutes' bench alongside Juan Foyth and Fernando Llorente, who was not involved at the weekend due to personal reasons. The Spaniard will hope to get a run out during the latter stages at the Amex Stadium.

7.07pmHughton has watched his side struggle in recent games but the Seagulls boss has demanded a 'solid' performance against a club where he used to work on the backroom staff. Click here to read his thoughts.

7.09pmBrighton have only lost four times at the Amex Stadium this season, with three of those defeats coming against top-six teams. Only Arsenal have failed to win on the South coast, with Manchester United still to come.

7.11pmHughton will be concerned with his team's defensive record over the past dozen matches. Brighton have not kept a single clean sheet, which is the worst streak in the division.

7.13pmAs it stands, 18th-placed Southampton can still achieve 43 points, meaning that Brighton currently need three wins to guarantee safety. However, realistically, Hughton will feel that five points from five matches will be enough come the middle of May.

7.15pmHowever, it may not be that easy. Each of Brighton's remaining games come against clubs currently sitting in the top seven in the table.

7.17pmBrighton head into this match with one of the most consistent starting lineups in the Premier League. As many as six players have started 31 or more of the 33 matches this season

7.19pmHowever, a less impressive statistic is the lack of different goalscorers. Just eight players have netted in the top flight this season, with Murray, Gross and Izquierdo contributing 22 of 31 goals.

7.21pmPochettino will be aware of Brighton's results over the past month or so, but the Argentine has predicted that his team will have to contend with an 'aggressive' performance from their hosts this evening. Click here to see what he has had to say.

7.23pmPochettino has also claimed that he has no concerns over the form of Hugo Lloris, who has made a number of high-profile errors over the past few weeks. Click here to read Pochettino's thoughts in full.

7.25pmSpurs head into this fixture having put together a rather impressive record. They have won their last 16 matches against newly-promoted teams, while they are unbeaten in 34 outings.

7.27pmKane has also been equally dominant against such teams. The forward has netted 22 times in his last 20 games.

7.29pmSpurs may have dropped points at Wembley Stadium this season but they possess the second-best away record in the Premier League with 33 points coming from 17 matches.

7.31pmAlli has been rested for tonight's fixture but the two most-used outfield players in the Premier League for Spurs remain in the team. Jan Vertonghen has spent 2850 minutes on the pitch, while Christian Eriksen has 2776 minutes to his name.

7.33pmWe mentioned earlier about only eight different players scoring for Brighton, but only nine have contributed for Spurs. All but 10 of Spurs' goals have come from Kane, Son, Eriksen or Alli.

7.35pmPREDICTION! Despite their poor form, Brighton will always back themselves to perform in front of their own supporters. However, Spurs are due a ruthless performance and we feel that it will come on Tuesday night. The visitors to win by a 3-1 scoreline.

7.37pmHEAD TO HEAD! Tuesday's fixture will represent just the 26th competitive clash between the two clubs, with Spurs recording 12 wins in comparison to six victories for Brighton. However, just three matches have taken place since 1983 and Spurs have emerged victorious in each of them. However, the North Londoners have not scored more than two goals in a game against Brighton in seven attempts.

7.39pmThis season's reverse fixture took place in December and goals from Serge Aurier and Son gave the home side a hard-fought triumph. Click here to read back on that contest.

7.41pmIt's time for the two teams to make their way out at the Amex Stadium. The home crowd are well up for this one and they need their side to respond in kind.

7.43pmA reminder of the two teams...

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION XI: Ryan; Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Bong; Kayal, Stephens; Knockaert, Gross, Izquierdo; Murray

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR XI: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Wanyama, Sissoko; Eriksen, Moura, Son; Kane

1 minKICKOFF! Brighton get us underway.

2 minThere's going to be a break in play due to Knockaert taking a whack to the face from a Wanyama forearm. It looks accidental, but it's going to hurt. The referee waved play on, and you can only think that Knockaert's reputation led to that decision.

4 minWe are back underway and it's Spurs who are on the offensive down the right flank. The home side struggle to deal with a couple of crosses into the box and the visitors eventually win a corner.

6 minBrighton deal with the set piece but Spurs regain possession and are looking to control the early stages of this match.

8 minIt's still early days in this match but Spurs are looking very assured. Brighton seem happy to sit off Pochettino's men without forcing the pace of the game. Doesn't feel the smartest approach.

10 minMore of the same from Spurs who appear to be toying with Brighton. It leads to a free kick on the edge of the box as Dunk mistimes a challenge on Moura.

12 minEriksen - almost inevitably - is the man to take the set piece but it's low and straight into the wall. Let off for the home side who need to find a response here. They are being outclassed. Dunk was booked for his earlier tackle.

14 minBit better from Brighton who at least start to make inroads in the Spurs half. Still no threat of a shot but at least they have forced the Spurs defence into some work.

16 minWe are through the opening quarter-of-an-hour on the South coast and we are still awaiting the first shot on goal. Spurs will be content with their start to this game but they are yet to show their true quality in the final third.

18 minCHANCE! Nearly another mistake from Lloris! Dunk's header from 14 yards shouldn't trouble the goalkeeper but a player on the line distracts the Frenchman before he claims the ball at the second attempt.

20 minSHOT! This is greedy from Knockaert but the end result is nearly a goal. The winger's 30-yard strike took a deflection and almost deceived Lloris but the goalkeeper changed direction to claim the ball.

22 minBack come Spurs who are able to get Davies into the penalty area but the left-back's cross deceives everyone and goes out for a throw-in. The Welshman should be doing better there.

23 minSHOT! Spurs are beginning to turn it on now. Another opportunity is created down the left-hand side of the penalty area and on this occasion, Son's low shot is saved by Ryan at his near post.

25 minSHOT! Everyone is starting to go shot-crazy. Brighton work a nice move from flank to flank before Bong arrives on the ball around 25 yards out. It's ambitious from the full-back but his effort forces Lloris into a save.

27 minThis is excellent from Brighton and Gross in particular. The playmaker turns inside the penalty area before a low cross finds its way to Stephens. The midfielder flicks an effort towards goal and although it takes a deflection, Lloris claims.

30 minSHOT! There's speculative and then there is what Dunk has just attempted - a half-volley from 30 yards out. It didn't hit the target...

31 minSHOT! Kane hasn't been heavily involved in this game but he's always capable of a goal. However, on this occasion, a left-footed strike on the edge of the area goes over the crossbar.

33 minSHOT! See below and change Kane's name to Moura's. The Brazilian has just come alive in the final third before seeing a 25-yard attempt tipped over by Ryan.

35 minWith 10 minutes to go in the first half, this match is very evenly poised. Brighton were outclassed during the opening 15 minutes but they are more than a match for Spurs right now. This is a good game.

37 minNot much more to add after a quiet last couple of minutes. Spurs are remaining patient with their approach and making Brighton move from side to side. It may pay off later in the match.

39 minBrighton need to be careful that they do not sit too deep. It's understandable that they want to reach the break on level terms but they are starting to invite pressure from the visitors.

41 minSpurs sense that they can force a goal here. That one big chance is yet to come but Brighton are getting nervy. It feels that they regard reaching the break still goalless as a significant deal.

43 minThe Brighton fans are responding in an effort to get their team over the line at the 45-minute mark. There's even not-so-subtle time-wasting from the hosts. They are nearly there.

45 minThere will be two minutes of added-on time. Spurs have a free kick on the edge of the box after a misplaced pass from Knockaert. This could be disastrous for the home side.

45+3 minAfter the big build-up, Kane slips and shoots tamely at Ryan. That will probably be the final chance of the half.

45+4 minCHANCE! The referee decides to play almost two minutes extra due to treatment for Moura and Spurs almost score. Kane tees up Son inside the penalty area and Ryan makes a stunning stop down to his left to keep the South Korean's effort out.

45+5 minHALF TIME: Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur

8.37pmThe half-time whistle goes at the Amex Stadium and we remain goalless. However, it's been an excellent game of football with Brighton growing into the game during the middle stages of the half. Hughton will be delighted to still be on level terms.

8.43pmSpurs had the better of the first half but their best opportunity did not arrive until the final seconds when Ryan made an excellent stop to deny Son. The Australian international has also needed to be alert to keep out another effort from the South Korean and a strike from Moura, but Spurs will disappointed with their end product so far.

8.47pmBrighton's best chances have gone to Dunk and Stephens inside the penalty area, and to Knockaert from distance. Lloris has not been troubled to a great extent but the Seagulls haven't been shy in showing a willingness to test the Spurs skipper.

46 minKICKOFF! Spurs get us back underway.

48 minGOAL! Brighton & Hove Albion 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Harry Kane)

48 minA mistake from Bong lets in Son on the byline and after the winger does well to keep the ball in, roll it past Ryan and tee up Kane, the forward does the rest with a powerful finish from eight yards which hits Bruno and goes into the net.

50 minGOAL! Brighton & Hove Albion 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Pascal Gross)

50 minEighteen seconds after the restart, Brighton win a penalty! It comes after Aurier brings down Izquierdo inside the area and Gross steps up to fire the ball to the right of Lloris, who helped the ball into the corner.

53 minRight then, how does this match go now? Spurs could have taken control but it is Brighton who have the momentum.

55 minThe home side are certainly not looking to sit back now. Gross gets down the right and delivers a cross for Izquierdo at the back post but Sissoko gets back to prevent the winger from potentially converting from close range.

56 minSHOT! Moura doesn't usually make the wrong decision when on the ball but he does so here. The playmaker had options to his right but instead, a shot is dragged well wide of the near post.

57 minFor the third time in this match, Spurs win a free kick in a central position and within shooting distance. Kayal handled the ball when trying to dispossess Kane.

59 minEriksen's free kick - again - goes into the wall before Davies's volley is blocked by Kayal. He certainly felt that. Play is stopped but the midfielder is fine to continue.

60 minKayal has just got hit in the stomach again! Not as hard but it has made an impact. He gets to his feet and struggles on.

62 minSpurs are back in the ascendancy now and Brighton are responding by putting more men behind the ball. Aurier and Davies are being allowed to almost play as two wingers.

62 minSpurs are back in the ascendancy now and Brighton are responding by putting more men behind the ball. Aurier and Davies are being allowed to almost play as two wingers.

64 minThe last two minutes have been spent with Brighton trying to repel a number of attacks from Spurs. They are managing to do so for now but it won't be long before Spurs create another opportunity. They also have Lamela and Llorente in reserve.

66 minDepending on how much ambition Brighton have for the remainder of this match, Hughton may consider replacing Murray because he is not doing much aside from chase the ball. Locadia or Ulloa could provide fresh legs.

70 minAs we move through the third quarter of this game, we are about to see the first alterations with Spurs acting first. As Spurs do that, Bong is slipping into the middle to act as a centre-back whenever the visitors have the ball.

73 minCHANCE! This is unbelievable. Spurs are queuing up in and around the penalty area but when a cross finally comes in, the ball hits Duffy's studs and goes marginally wide of the far post. Ryan was beaten.

74 minSUBSTITUTIONS! Brighton act by replacing Murray with Ulloa. As for Spurs, Dembele and Lamela are coming on for Sissoko and Moura.

77 minSUBSTITUTION! A second change for Brighton sees March replace Izquierdo. Nothing else has happened in general play.

79 minBrighton are certainly setting up to try to secure a point. It would be deserved but there is still a long way to go. It's a risky strategy from Hughton.

81 minThis has simply become a game of attack versus defence. Brighton have Ulloa in attack and Gross chasing down the ball but that's it. The home side look like they are starting to tire in the centre of the park.

83 minBetter from Brighton who get a couple of players into the box for a Knockaert cross but the delivery is too strong and straight into the hands of Lloris.

85 minSHOT! Kane attempts a shot from distance but drags it well wide of the post.

85 minSUBSTITUTION! Interesting. Pochettino has decided to replace Kane with Llorente.

86 minCHANCE! This would have been outrageous. A long throw finds Ulloa whose first-time lay-off tees up Gross, but the midfielder's volley goes over.

88 minSHOT! The ball breaks kindly for Lamela who is able to advance into the penalty area but it is on his weaker right foot and his effort goes straight at Ryan.

90 minThere will be three minutes of added-on time.

90+2 minIt's all Spurs. They have a corner. Brighton have got to dig deep to keep hold of their point.

90+4 minFULL TIME: Brighton & Hove Albion 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

9.46pmThe full-time whistle goes at the Amex Stadium and Brighton have held on for a precious point against Spurs. The home side are full value for this result and it could potentially prove to be the difference in the efforts to avoid relegation. Spurs, meanwhile, now sit eight points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea.

9.47pmThat will be all from Sports Mole for this match. Thank you for joining us this evening and we hope to see you again soon.
