Newport County boss Michael Flynn: 'We did ourselves proud'

Newport County manager Michael Flynn praises his players for their performance during their 2-0 reverse at Tottenham Hotspur.

Newport County manager Michael Flynn has praised his players for their performance during their 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fourth-round replay between the sides.

An own goal from Dan Butler and Erik Lamela's first strike of the season knocked the League Two minnows out of the competition, but Flynn insisted that his players did themselves proud.

"It was always going to be difficult. It was a good start in the first 25 minutes, but the manner of the goal, the way it went in, it took it out of the boys and deflated them," he told BBC Sport.

"I am very proud of the players and very proud of the players this evening. They put in a huge amount of work and they have done themselves and the club proud and we should have scored at the end.

"I want to keep progressing in the league and keep progressing year in, year out. We have time to add to the squad and improve things."

Spurs will take on Rochdale in the next round of the FA Cup.
