Wembley Stadium will play host to all of Tottenham Hotspur's European fixtures next season, while an agreement has been struck to play all league games there in 2017-18.

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed that an agreement has been struck to play their 2016-17 Champions League fixtures at Wembley Stadium.

UEFA requirements forced the Lilywhites to look for a different venue to stage their European games due to ongoing works at their White Hart Lane home.

The North London venue will have to be vacated to complete the latter stages of the new stadium construction, so the decision has been made to move their matches to the home of English football.

As part of the agreement, Spurs have also announced that all Premier League and cup fixtures could also be moved to Wembley for the 2017-18 season.

It had previously been suggested that Spurs would have to play their cup games at another venue, with the Stadium:mk being touted as a possibility, but the new agreement will allow the Premier League outfit to remain in London.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: "We're delighted that, through working in partnership with WNSL and the Football Association, we've been able to reach this agreement. Playing at Wembley will mean that we can continue to accommodate all of our existing season ticket holders.

"Our season ticket waiting list is over 50,000 so this now also offers us a great opportunity to provide more of our supporters with a chance to see the team play live during our Champions League campaign.

"Importantly, as we know it was our fans' preference, it means that we can play our home matches in London during our season away."

Tottenham hope to have their new stadium open for the 2018-19 season, although the timetable is largely dependent on commitments being met by the local council.
