Moussa Sissoko suggests that Tottenham Hotspur were "intimidated" during the opening stages of their Champions League fixture with Ajax on Tuesday night.

Moussa Sissoko has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were "intimidated" during the early stages against Ajax on Tuesday night.

Spurs conceded an early goal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final tie, and Donny van de Beek's effort proved to be the difference at full time.

Sissoko feels that Spurs improved during the second half, but the Frenchman has criticised his team's performance before his introduction before the break.

The midfielder told RMC Sport: "The start of the match was not good on our part, we were perhaps intimidated by the challenge.

"We did not play our football. I tried to bring back the impact, in the second half it was better, we could have done better, it's a shame to lose this match but there is a second leg."

The reverse fixture will be staged at the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Wednesday, May 8.
