Spain boss Julen Lopetegui says that he 'enjoyed' his debut as La Roja coach as his team recorded a 2-0 win over Belgium.

Julen Lopetegui has revealed that he 'enjoyed' his debut as Spain boss in Thursday's international friendly with Belgium.

Lopetegui, who has replaced Vicente del Bosque at the helm, oversaw a 2-0 victory over Belgium in Brussels as a double from David Silva made it a winning start to the 50-year-old's La Roja tenure.

The former Porto boss, however, has insisted that Monday's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein "is more important" as Spain look to bounce back from a disappointing Euro 2016.

"There were times when we played really well, and when the match was more balanced, we knew how to suffer. We've prevailed thanks to a good performance," Lopetegui told reporters.

"When you enjoy your work, you enjoy yourself. They worked hard as a team and showed quality. It's important to enjoy playing football. Little by little, [our youngsters] will have to evolve. Life and football are like that. This was a very nice game, but the next one is more important, without doubt."

Lopetegui, who represented Real Madrid as a player, has previously managed Spain at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level.
