Vicente del Bosque will step down as head coach of Spain following the completion of Euro 2016, according to extracts taken from his new book.

Vicente del Bosque will leave his position as Spain coach at the end of Euro 2016, according to extracts taken from his new book.

The 64-year-old took charge of La Roja following their Euro 2008 triumph and led his country to the World Cup crown in 2010 and the European Championships in 2012.

A disappointing 2014 World Cup, where the holders failed to make it out of the group stages, led to speculation surrounding his future, but the experienced coach will lead the team into the Euros in France next summer.

Extracts from Del Bosque's new book, Winning and Losing: Emotional Strength were published on Friday, where he revealed that he is likely to step down from his role with the national team in 2016.

"If everything goes as expected, after Euro 2016 I will leave the national team and the Spanish football federation. It is also a question of health," read the extract.

Del Bosque has only ever held two jobs in club management – Real Madrid and Besiktas.
