Southampton are reportedly ready to compete with Roma for the signing of Sassuolo forward Gregoire Defrel.

Sassuolo forward Gregoire Defrel is reportedly attracting interest from both Southampton and Roma.

Late last year, Defrel was linked with a potential move to either West Ham United or Liverpool, but it now appears that two other clubs are keen on his services.

According to The Sun, the 26-year-old has emerged as a target for both the Saints and the Giallorossi after scoring 14 goals from 35 appearances in all competition last season.

It has been claimed that Southampton are prepared to pay as much as £18m for the player as they look to replace Jay Rodriguez, who is a target for a number of Premier League clubs.

Roma are looking for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who has recently left for Liverpool, and they are likely to have little issue with meeting his valuation.

Defrel has spent his entire career in Italy, although he has only started to make an impact during his two years at Sassuolo.
