The 24-year-old has not played since November.

Out-of-favour Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt has joined Spanish club Celta Vigo on loan until the end of the season.

Holland international Hoedt has not featured for Saints under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and last played in late November.

The deal for the 24-year-old includes an option for LaLiga side Celta to make the move permanent in the summer.

A statement on Southampton's website read: "Hoedt's move will allow him to gain additional playing time between now and the end of the season, while also further helping Hasenhuttl to achieve his aim of trimming the first-team squad this month.

"The club would like to wish Wesley good luck for the rest of the season."

Hoedt,  who joined Southampton on a five-year contract from Lazio for £15million in the summer of 2017,  follows Steven Davis and Manolo Gabbiadini in leaving St Mary's this month.

He has made 45 appearances for the south coast club in all competitions, with his only goal coming in last season's FA Cup win at West Brom.

Hoedt, who won the most recent of his six international caps against Bulgaria in September 2017, joins fellow Saints loanee Sofiane Boufal at Celta.

The centre-back's new side are battling relegation from Spain's top-flight, sitting a point and a place above the relegation zone in 17th.
