The Saints find themselves in the relegation zone following a goalless draw at Chelsea.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl knows he must strike the right balance between pursuing progress in the FA Cup and fighting for Premier League survival.

Despite picking up a potentially important point from a goalless draw at Chelsea on Wednesday night, the Saints find themselves in the bottom three.

Hasenhuttl, who accepts he is performing a juggling act with his squad, confirmed he will make changes for Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie at Sky Bet Championship promotion-hopefuls Derby.

"It's a fantastic experience for me. It's a famous cup, a traditional cup. When I was a child in Austria, I would always see the FA Cup final at the old Wembley Stadium," said the Austrian.

"It's important, because I think our supporters are very proud about if we can make it through a few rounds, maybe until the final.

"So we try to find a good balance between fighting for our life in the Premier League and also having a good eye on the FA Cup."

Hasenhuttl confirmed both midfielder Steven Davis, linked with a switch back to Rangers, and Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini could move on during the transfer window.

With both players having been potentially in line to face the Rams, Hasenhuttl has plenty of selection posers for the trip to Pride Park.

Japan defender Maya Yoshida is away for the Asia Cup, so Matt Targett could be drafted back in.

"We will again rotate, and bring in fresh players and try to keep the tempo on a high level and therefore we need fresh players," he said at a press conference.

"It is a very interesting competition for us and we have to do everything to get to the next round."

Southampton won the FA Cup in 1976, beating Manchester United.

Hasenhuttl would love to give the Saints fans another occasion to remember 43 years later.

"The old Wembley Stadium is always in my mind, always a fantastic pitch, it was amazing – celebrating with the Queen, who gave the trophy," he said.

"As I know, the last time she gave it was to Southampton, because maybe she was thinking it couldn't get better, so then she stopped. It's an awesome cup and I'm looking forward to it."
