Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk says that the team can be "satisfied" with a point against Hapoel Be'er Sheva in their Europa League Group K match in Israel.

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has claimed that the team are "satisfied" with a point following a goalless draw with Hapoel Be'er Sheva in their Europa League Group K clash in Israel.

Claude Puel rested a number of his key players, including Jose Fonte, Ryan Bertrand, Steven Davis and Charlie Austin, but they remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Van Dijk missed a close-range header in the fourth minute, but the visitors held off their opponents in order to maintain their place at the top of the table.

"We knew what we could have faced today, and they had the crowd behind them so it was going to be tough," Van Dijk told BT Sport. "We started off bad, they pressed us high but after half an hour we got more control of the game, let the ball do the work and until the break I think we were dominant.

"After the break it was the same story. A point over here is a good result. I should have scored, but it didn't happen. I'm okay with the feeling that we kept a clean sheet again after a long journey. I think we can be satisfied with a point today."

Southampton join Be'er Sheva on four points, while Sparta Prague are one point behind in third, and Inter sit at the bottom following back-to-back defeats.
