Sevilla defender Sergio Escudero says that his team are "extremely happy" with their start to the season, which has left them second in La Liga.

Sevilla defender Sergio Escudero has said that his team are "extremely happy" with their start to the season.

Sunday's 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid has left Sevilla in second position in La Liga, having collected 20 points from their opening nine matches of the campaign.

No team has won more La Liga games than Sevilla this term, and Escudero has insisted that his side are not finished as they bid to gatecrash the top three in Spain this season.

"We are extremely happy. To beat a team like Atletico Madrid, one of the top clubs in Europe and in the world, is good reason to be happy," Escudero told the club's official website.

"I think this victory against Atletico is a step up. All games are very complicated and we struggled against Leganes. We have to follow this path, to fight and to play as we know how. We have to demand the best from ourselves in every game."

Next up for Sevilla is a trip to Sporting Gijon in the league next weekend.
