Result: Joel Matip grabs Schalke 04 last-gasp point away at Hertha Berlin

Schalke earn a last-gasp 2-2 draw with Hertha Berlin thanks to a last-minute equaliser from Joel Matip at the Olympiastadion Berlin.

Joel Matip's last-gasp equaliser ensured that Schalke 04 twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw away at Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga this afternoon.

The visitors came close in the opening minutes when Christian Fuchs let fly from distance, only to see Thomas Kraft make a save down at his bottom-right corner.

Berlin took the lead with their first real opportunity as Anis Ben-Hatira found himself with space to convert into the centre of goal past a helpless Timon Wellenreuther.

Schalke pushed to restore parity before the break, with Leroy Sane seeing a decent attempt from the centre of the box blocked on its way to goal.

Sane had not given up, though, and he returned to pull Schalke level on the stroke of half time with a neat finish from around six yards out.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was presented with the chance to put Schalke into the lead after half time when he was found by Tranquillo Barnetta, but the mid-week hero shot straight at Kraft.

Berlin's Genki Haraguchi passed up a great chance with 15 minutes to play when he fired straight at Wellenreuther despite having space in the centre of the box.

Haraguchi's miss was not to matter too much, though, as he returned eight minutes from time to put his side back in front after reacting quickest to convert a rebound from Valentin Stocker's original effort.

It looked as though Berlin would close out the three points, but Matip stood up in the dying embers to head in a Fuchs delivery and earn the visitors a crucial point.
