Result: Dynamo Dresden stun Schalke 04

Third-tier side Dynamo Dresden knock Bundesliga side Schalke 04 out of the DFB-Pokal.

Third-tier side Dynamo Dresden have stunned Schalke 04 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal this evening, beating the Bundesliga side 2-1 at Glucksgas Stadion.

Both sides had chances early in the match, as Justin Eilers tried to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle for the hosts before Eric Choupo-Moting saw his shot from the edge of the box saved.

Dresden were awarded a penalty midway through the first half when Felipe Santana challenged Luca Durholtz in the box, which Eilers slotted into the left-hand side of the net.

Kevin-Prince Boateng had a couple of shots shortly before the break as he tried to get Schalke back on level terms, but he could not keep his finishes on target.

The hosts doubled their lead just a few minutes after the restart when Nils Teixeira blasted the ball in from the edge of the box.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar tested Benjamin Kirsten a few minutes later in a bid to get the visitors back into the tie, but the Dynamo keeper comfortably claimed the ball.

The visitors did manage to pull one back late on to give themselves some hope of a comeback, as Joel Matip headed in from close range after Satana had a shot parried moments earlier.

Julian Draxler tried to force an equaliser in the final minutes, going directly for goal from a free kick, but his shot was always rising, allowing Dresden to hold on for the win.
