Result: Sampdoria end Roma's unbeaten start

Sampdoria win 2-1 at home against Roma to end the capital club's unbeaten start to the season.

Roma's unbeaten start to the season has ended after losing 2-1 to Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Radja Nainggolan almost scored after Sampdoria failed to clear a corner, the Belgian latching on to the ball just inside the box but rifling his shot wide of the goal.

Miralem Pjanic had a chance later on after he struck a shot from just outside the box, hitting the ball first time but the swerving shot was saved by Emiliano Viviano.

Summer signing Edin Dzeko tried a shot from an awkward angle midway through the first half but his strike was well stopped by Viviano.

Daniele de Rossi came close just before the break after Dzeko flicked on a Pjanic free kick but the Italian international could not direct his close-range header towards goal.

Sampdoria went ahead at the start of the second half through an Eder free kick from 25 yards out, with the Brazilian scoring his sixth goal in five games.

Roma drew level 19 minutes later, with some patient passing play eventually landing at the feet of Mohamed Salah and the Egyptian put his shot high out of the reach of the Sampdoria goalkeeper.

De Rossi was presented with another chance not long after as a corner was headed back into the box, but the Roma skipper nodded the ball into Viviano's arms.

However, Sampdoria hit Roma on the counter-attack with five minutes to go, with Eder firing the ball across goal before Kostas Manolas sliced the ball into his own goal.

Sampdoria rise to fifth in Serie A with the win while Roma fall to ninth in the table.
