Republic of Ireland striker Jonathan Walters is ruled out of Friday's international friendly against Switzerland with a hamstring strain.

Republic of Ireland head coach Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Jonathan Walters will play no part in Friday's international friendly against Switzerland.

The 31-year-old will not be risked by O'Neill as he has not fully recovered from a minor hamstring injury.

Walters has returned home but will join back up with the squad on Thursday ahead of their game against Slovakia at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin next Tuesday.

Ireland are using the friendlies as warm-up fixtures for this summer's European Championships in France.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill asks 'Is it bigger than a bread bin?' during his side's Euro 2016 qualifier with Germany.
