Real Madrid confirm the return of Zinedine Zidane as manager on a three-year deal, just 10 months after he stepped down from the role.

Real Madrid have confirmed that they have reappointed Zinedine Zidane as manager on a three-year deal.

Zidane initially stepped down from the role after leading Madrid to an unprecedented third successive Champions League title last May.

However, Los Blancos have suffered a nightmare campaign which has seen them go through two new managers and their hopes of a trophy all but ended by March.

Julen Lopetegui was originally chosen as Zidane's successor only to be sacked after less than four months in the role, while his replacement Santiago Solari has now been sacked as head coach too after Madrid's Champions League exit.

Solari has, however, been offered the chance to remain at the club in some capacity.

Zidane, who had been linked with jobs at Juventus, Manchester United and Chelsea earlier this season, has put pen to paper on a contract which keeps him at the Bernabeu until June 30, 2022.

The Frenchman led Madrid to three Champions Leagues, two Club World Cups, two European Super Cups and one La Liga title during his first spell in charge, which lasted from January 2016 to May 2018.

The 46-year-old also ended his playing career with the Spanish giants, where he made more than 200 appearances.

Zidane's first game back in charge of Madrid comes against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
