Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric claims that the club's "priority" this season is to win La Liga, rather than the Champions League.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has claimed that the club's "priority" this season is to win La Liga.

The Spanish giants have lifted the Champions League title in two of the last three campaigns, but have not landed the top prize in Spain since 2012 - the summer that Modric arrived at the Bernabeu.

The Croatian midfielder, who recently signed a new long-term contract with Los Blancos, has said that failing to win the league for four years "is too long" for a club of Real Madrid's stature.

"I have won everything but La Liga since I came here - I am only missing that and hope to win it this year. I can only say our priority is to win La Liga this year because for a club like Real Madrid, not winning La Liga for four years is too long," Modric told reporters.

Modric, 31, is closing in on 200 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, but the central midfielder is currently on the sidelines with a knee problem.
