President Florentino Perez says that Real Madrid have "special affection" for playmaker James Rodriguez.

President Florentino Perez has suggested that he is happy that James Rodriguez remained at Real Madrid this summer.

After spending a two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich, it was expected that Real would part ways with the Colombia international before September 2.

However, despite having been linked with the likes of Napoli and Atletico Madrid, Rodriguez has been included in the plans of boss Zinedine Zidane.

The 28-year-old has started two of Real's opening four La Liga fixtures this season, and Perez has taken the opportunity to praise the playmaker.

At Madrid's assembly, Perez said: "James is a player with a huge talent and someone we have a special affection for."

Rodriguez featured against Levante on Saturday as Real registered a 3-2 victory at the Bernabeu.
