Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane insists that his team "deserved to go through after 180 minutes" of their Champions League quarter-final with Juventus.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has insisted that his team "deserved to go through after 180 minutes" of their Champions League quarter-final with Juventus.

The Spanish giants entered the match holding a 3-0 advantage from the first leg of their quarter-final in Turin, but Juventus hit back with three goals of their own to leave the tie level at 3-3 entering stoppage time at the end of the 90 minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo sent Los Blancos into the final four, however, when he converted from the penalty spot after Medhi Benatia had felled Lucas Vazquez, with the aftermath seeing Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon receive a straight red card for pushing referee Michael Oliver.

Despite the scare, Zidane has said that Madrid "deserved" to progress into the semi-finals of the competition.

"I'm happy, we deserved to go through after 180 minutes," Zidane told beIN Sports. "We had plenty of chances, it was difficult that we didn't score, but that's football.

"We had a great game at their place but everything was the other way round here, that's true. We had chances, but the ball didn't want to go in. In the end, we suffered. We had to fix up during half-time."

Madrid have now reached the semi-finals of the competition for the eighth year in a row.
