Robert Lewandowski's record vs. Real Madrid

Ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Sports Mole looks at Robert Lewandowski's past record against Los Blancos.

Bayern Munich have it all to do when they visit the Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid this evening, having fallen to a 2-1 defeat at home last week.

Not only do the German champions need to score at least twice in the Madrid capital to overcome the two away goals they conceded, but they will also need to do it without a number of key players.

The likes of Arjen Robben, Arturo Vidal, Jerome Boateng, Kingsley Coman and Manuel Neuer are all sidelined for Jupp Heynckes's side, placing even more importance on the exploits of star striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Pole has 39 goals across all competitions this season - including five already in the Champions League - while only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more semi-final goals than him in the history of the competition.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how he has fared against Los Blancos in the past.

Lewandowski vs. Real Madrid

Not many players will be able to match Lewandowski's prolific nature against Real Madrid over the years, with the striker having directly contributed to eight goals in just seven games against the Spanish giants.

While Bayern and Madrid have done battle more often than any other teams in the Champions League, the majority of Lewandowski's meetings with Los Blancos came in the yellow of Borussia Dortmund - including a particularly special night in the 2012-13 semi-finals.

The 29-year-old incredibly scored all four of his side's goals - including a second-half hat-trick - as Dortmund won 4-1 in their home first leg, and even a 2-0 defeat in the return at the Bernabeu could not prevent the German club from going through.

Indeed, Lewandowski actually ended that 2012-13 campaign with five goals and one assist from four meetings with Madrid, having also come up against them in the group stages when they won one and drew in Spain.

There was another victory and Lewandowski assist as Dortmund beat Real in the home leg of the 2013-14 quarter-finals - albeit not by enough to progress - but the Pole is yet to taste success against the 12-time European champions as a Bayern player.

Injury ruled out him out of the first leg of last season's quarter-final before he scored in the return, a 4-2 defeat after extra time, to register his first ever goal at the Bernabeu.

Lewandowski had been on the winning side in all three of his previous home appearances against Madrid before last week's first leg, while he has never won a game at the Bernabeu.
