A report claims that goalkeeper Vito Mannone is to undergo a medical with Reading ahead of a £2m switch from Championship rivals Sunderland.

Sunderland have accepted a £2m offer from Championship rivals Reading for goalkeeper Vito Mannone, according to a report.

The 29-year-old, who kept three clean sheets in 13 appearances last season, was absent from the Black Cats' squad for their meeting with Hartlepool United on Tuesday night.

It is claimed by the Daily Mail that Mannone, into the final year of his Stadium of Light contract, has been allowed to travel to Berkshire to undergo a medical with the Royals.

Reading are on the lookout for a new first-choice stopper after selling Ali Al-Habsi to Al-Hilal for £600,000 earlier this week, ending his two-year spell with the club.

Mannone, formerly on Arsenal's books, kept 24 shutouts in 82 outings during his time in the Premier League.
