Rangers midfielder Joey Barton's hearing into alleged betting offences is pushed back to November 17.

Rangers midfielder Joey Barton's hearing over alleged betting offences has been moved to November 17.

The 34-year-old has been charged with placing 44 bets on games between July 1 and September 15 of this year, breaching SFA rules which forbid players from betting on any football match in the world.

Barton had initially been given until Wednesday to respond to the charge, but the player requested additional time in order to prepare his case this week.

The original hearing had been scheduled for October 27, but that has now been pushed back to November 17.

It is not thought that Barton placed any bets on matches involving Rangers, although he did reportedly bet on Celtic losing heavily to Barcelona in the Champions League.

The incident has added to a troubled start to life in Glasgow for Barton, who continues to serve a suspension from Rangers following a bust-up with manager Mark Warburton and teammate Andy Halliday.
