Adam Nawalka to step down from Poland job following early World Cup exit

Adam Nawalka is to leave his role as Poland's manager once his contract expires at the end of the month.

The Polish Football Association has confirmed that manager Adam Nawalka will step down from his position as the senior team's head coach.

Poland failed to make any sort of impression at this summer's World Cup, losing their opening two games to condemn themselves to an early exit.

Despite a 1-0 win over Japan in their final match, the European side - backed as dark horses by many pre-tournament - still finished bottom of Group H.

Nawalka will now make way for another manager to take charge for the inaugural UEFA Nations League campaign once his contract expires at the end of the month.

Zbigniew Boniek, head of the Polish Football Association, said in a statement: "We have decided that Adam Nawalka will remain Poland's team coach until July 30 and after that day we will be looking for a new coach. We will try to build a national team in a new way."

Nawalka has spent the past five years in charge of Poland, following previous stints with Gornik Zabrze, GKS Katowice and Wisla Krakow among others.
